McLennan County District Attorney Abelino “Abel” Reyna recently said two separate grand juries will conduct investigations into the shooting that occurred between a motorcycle gang and a group of police officers outside a Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco, Texas on May 17, 2015. This event led to the arrest of at least 170 bikers and the death of 9 individuals.
According to Reyna, one grand jury will be investigating the case against the motorcycle riders, and another grand jury will be conducting an investigation into the police officers’ use of deadly force.
Susan Kelly of Waco, who monitors the bikers’ prosecutions for the TCDLA, and Paul Looney of Houston and Hempstead, lawyer for three defendants, are of the opinion that a grand jury is not likely to be convened before October to hear the bikers’ cases. They also assume that a police officer is not likely going to be a part of the grand jury.
