Matthew Apperson, the man who shot at George Zimmerman earlier this week along a busy road in Lake Mary, Florida, has been taken into police custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and firing a missile into an occupied conveyance, according to the San Jose Mercury News on May 15.
According to a Lake Mary Police Department press release, Apperson surrendered himself to authorities.
Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watch volunteer who was not convicted in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager in 2012, was visiting the Orlando suburb for Mother’s day when the altercation occurred. According to his attorney, Zimmerman was driving to his doctor’s appointment when Apperson allegedly fired into Zimmerman’s truck for no reason at all. Apperson’s representation, however, said the event was self-defense, possibly in relation to a previous instance of road range in which Zimmerman threatened Apperson.
